100-plus stores host organic breakfast events

Wake Up To Organic, the annual organic breakfast event organized by UK Organic (formerly the Organic Trade Board) took place on 4 June with over 100 independent health stores taking part to promote organic within their communities, serving up an estimated 4,000 mini breakfasts.

Cristina Dimetto, managing director at UK Organic, comments: “We had another successful event, with over 100 indie shops offering breakfasts and sampling products from our main participating brands, Clearspring and HayMax. Ocado Zoom joined the celebration this year, promoting organic products on their platform and distributing complimentary organic products (mainly Clearspring ones) to customers placing an order on the day.”

Sussex-based retailer The Seasons Whole Foods, which has stores in Lewes and Forest Row, hosted the event at both sites, calling it ‘a joyful morning celebrating all things organic’ and inspiring their regulars to start the day the organic way. Free tasters were handed out while supplies lasted, with the display featuring goodies from sponsors Clearspring and HayMax as well as IBIS Rice, Yogi Tea, Court Lodge Farm and Granola Fan Club

Maria Dawson, managing director at Clearspring, said her brand was ‘delighted’ to once again support the annual initiative: “It’s a great way to engage with retailers and inspire shoppers to elevate their breakfast with organic. We also think it is great to have another annual event, alongside Organic September, where we can make organic the focus and champion the great taste of organic products, whilst highlighting why it is good for people and the planet.”

Max Wiseberg, MD and creator of HayMax, adds: “HayMax loves the indie sector and also loves organic so every year we take part in Wake Up To Organic, and 2025 was no different. It's a bit weird as it's a breakfast thing, but that's the perfect time to get your hay fever prevention on and, the event takes place in peak grass pollen period so it's perfect timing. Supporting indies to connect with their customers and getting the word out about organic to help our planet — what could be better!"
